Mr Andrew Clarke
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
MBBS, FRCS, FRCS(Orth)
Mr Clarke is a full time NHS Consultant Orthopaedic and Hand Surgeon based in Taunton who qualified at the Middlesex Hospital, London in 1984. He completed his orthopaedic training in Sheffield and his special interest in surgery of the hand was developed as an international fellow to the Sydney Hospital Hand Surgical Unit. He provides an extensive range of hand/wrist and elbow surgical procedures for both traumatic and elective conditions usually on a day case basis.
Common operations performed by Mr Clarke include carpal tunnel decompression, surgery for hand/wrist arthritis, Dupuytren’s contracture (including minimally invasive needle fasciotomy) and tennis elbow release. He works in close collaboration with his anaesthetic colleagues who provide both general and local anaesthetic techniques to ensure maximum pain relief.
Mr Clarke is a passionate trainer of orthopaedic registrars and he is a Royal College examiner in orthopaedic surgery. At Musgrove Park Hospital NHS Trust, he is a past Clinical Director for Orthopaedics and he sits on national training committees for both education and medico-legal matters.
